Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto Opens New Tower

A crowd of 250 gathered Sunday, November 5, to witness the ribbon cutting of the new 11-story bed tower at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto.  Several elected officials, including U. S. Rep. Roger Wicker and Southaven Mayor Greg Davis, were on hand to help celebrate.

The tower adds 140 new beds to the hospital, bringing the bed total to 339, making the hospital the second-largest in the Baptist system, behind only Baptist Memphis.  All patient rooms will be private rooms.

The new entrance to the hospital tower is on the second floor, which is also the location of the new emergency department.  The third floor hold surgical suites, the fourth floor houses the ICU, the fifth floor contains the step-down unit, and the sixth floor holds acute care.  Private patient rooms are located on floors seven through nine, with the top two floors remaining empty until further growth requires their use.

The emergency department has been expanded to 35 exam rooms, which include 5 pediatric rooms, eight fast-track rooms, eight general exam rooms, four obstetrics rooms, three gynecological rooms, four cardiac rooms and an orthopedic cast room.

The surgery floor include 11 surgical suites, with four for open-heart surgeries, two for orthopedic surgeries, four for general surgeries, and one for urinary, bladder and prostate surgeries.
