DeSoto County Still the Place to be for Industry in 2006

DeSoto County has consistently been shown to be a great place to do business, and this is further evidenced by the location of thirteen new industries and the expansion of eleven existing industries, for a capital investment of $63 million and the creation of 950 new jobs.

Some of the industries that chose DeSoto County as their new home include a document storage company, a manufacturer of postal scales, and a distributor of telephone systems.  Two new companies began operations in Olive Branch in 2006, including Ferguson Enterprises, a plumbing supply company, and Triner Scale, which manufactures postage scales.  All other new companies made Southaven their new home.  API distributes aerospace parts.  Avaya distributes telephone systems.  C&H Distribution is a distributor of shop equipment.  Iron Mountain provides document storage solutions (see “Industry Spotlight” article on Iron Mountain).  Imation Corp. distributes removable data storage such as magnetic tapes, CDs and flash drives.  ITT will provide light assembly and distribution of residential, commercial and industrial pumps and parts.  Jacobson is a third-party logistics company.  Nu Horizons is a distributor of advanced technology active components and systems.  Terumo Medical distributes medical supplies.  Univera Life Sciences will open a fulfillment center.  Finally, Warehouse 86 distributes discount goods.

Several companies that already call DeSoto County home expanded their operations in 2006 as well.  Newly Weds Foods, a seasonings producer, announced plans to expand its Horn Lake operations, and J. T. Shannon Lumber Company, also in Horn Lake, will add a flooring line to its production.  In Olive Branch, several companies also announced expansion plans.  Infinite Building Products, formerly Owens Corning, will expand its production of vinyl siding.  Milwaukee Electric Tool distributes power tools.  Quebecor World, which prints catalogs, and Tyler Refrigeration, which produces walk-in coolers, will also expand their plants.  Three companies in Southaven as well saw that staying in DeSoto County and expanding was the most favorable option.  Boundtree Medical is an emergency medical products distributor.  Chep Pallet manufactures pallets.  Future Electronics distributes electronic components.

The DeSoto Council welcomes our newest corporate citizens and thanks those already here who chose to expand their existing operations.  We are proud that DeSoto County is a part of your company story.
