DeSoto Arts Council Names New Director
Elaine Abadie joined the DeSoto Arts Council as its first full-time
executive director in December 2006 following six years as executive
director of the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council in Oxford, Mississippi.
Accomplishments there include the founding of the Oxford Film Festival,
publication of the bestselling Square Table community cookbook, and
establishment of the Powerhouse Community Arts Center. A graduate of Hollins
College in Roanoke, Virginia, with a bachelor of arts degree in art history,
Abadie studied art in Paris and completed coursework for an M.A. in journalism
at the University of Mississippi. She has served as a panelist for the
Mississippi Arts Commission and on the board of directors for the Boys and
Girls Club and Yocona Festival. She has been an active volunteer for the
Literacy Council, Humane Society, and American Heart Association.
