Leadership DeSoto to Host Sixteenth Class

Leadership DeSoto, now in its sixteenth year, will begin the 2006-2007 program on Thursday, November 16, with a two-day team-building session in which participants will get to know each other through a series of group activities, including Parkwood’s ropes course.  The class will then meet for one full day each month to learn about challenges and opportunities facing DeSoto County in the areas of economic development, education, local and state government, health care, and the court system.

A change coming to this year’s Leadership DeSoto program will be the addition of a bus tour of DeSoto County.  Many participants in Leadership DeSoto are new to the area, so the countywide tour will give them an overview of the county.  Even those who have been in DeSoto County for many years will get a new perspective of the county, and they may even see areas they are not familiar with.  The tour will take a similar route taken by legislators who came to DeSoto County in 2004 for “Rockin’ & Rollin’ in DeSoto County.”

As always, the large group of up to 30 participants will be divided into several small groups, each of which will work on a community service project.

Those chosen to participate in the 2006-2007 Leadership DeSoto program will be announced in October.
