Leadership DeSoto recruiting for new class

The DeSoto Council is now accepting applications for the Leadership DeSoto Class of 2008.  Up to thirty members of the DeSoto County community will be accepted into this year’s program.  Participants in the program may live or work in DeSoto County, and they may be recommended by employers, Leadership DeSoto alumni, or they may self-nominate.  The program will begin November 15-16 with two days of leadership training, followed by meetings held once each month through May of 2008.

Leadership DeSoto was founded in 1990 as a program designed to identify and train future leaders of DeSoto County.  More than 375 community leaders have participated, including attorneys, bankers, health care professionals, industrial leaders, state senators, judges, and many others.  The program provides a behind-the-scenes look at DeSoto County, and participants will learn about issues and challenges facing the community in such areas as economic development, education, health care, and local and state government.  The class will also be divided into small groups, each of which will work on a community service project.  This year’s projects will be a continuation of last year’s projects, which laid the plans for a community home show to raise money for the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi.  The groups will present their projects at graduation, to be held in May.
