DeSoto County leads industrial construction
DeSoto County has once again been recognized as the place to be for industrial growth. According to an article in the June 15 edition of the Memphis Business Journal, there is more industrial construction and leasing than any other Mid-South submarket. The MBJ cited DeSoto County’s absorption of 4.3 million square feet in 2006 as the main indicator of positive growth. As a part of that 4.3 million square feet, Iron Mountain leased 572,000 square feet in Panattoni’s Southaven Distribution Center, and Imation leased 563,000 square feet in IDI’s Stateline Business Park. These two leases were the largest of the year in the Mid-South market. The MBJ also quoted Jim Mercer, executive vice president of CB Richard Ellis, as saying, “the story is the pace of new construction in DeSoto County with 3.5 million square feet under construction.”
