2007 DeSoto Council Chairman
We are already past the first quarter, and the DeSoto Council's annual program of work is well underway. Leading off each year with the Capitol Legislative Breakfast with our famous fried pies, the Governmental Affairs Committee was busy tracking state legislation and completing the Washington Congressional Briefing. Concurrent with their efforts, the Infrastructure Committee has already hosted 2 meetings, focusing on wastewater and stormwater projects and a state legislative wrap-up. The Salute to Industry Committee just recently hosted the largest golf tournament in our history and an informative luncheon for our Plant Managers.
With Leadership DeSoto's class winding down to graduation and several fund raising opportunities for the Education Foundation, the staff has been hard at work for you, our members. On the Industrial Recruitment front, the county has already recognized an early record number of locations of 7 new companies and 4 expansions of existing ones. Hosting the Mississippi Development Authority European Investment team in DeSoto County, taking advantage of training opportunities to position ourselves for the Toyota location, and implementing a new available building and site on line database has kept the development team quite busy.
We look forward to another remarkable year in the 29th-fastest growing county in the nation and most importantly commit to seeking new ways to bring added value to our business community. Thank you for this privilege to serve you this year.
