DeSoto Council Board Member Rod Rumler is the recipient of the 2007 Athena Award. The award, presented by the Southaven Chamber of Commerce, recognized people who have excelled in their careers, served the community and assisted women in reaching their goals. Other nominees this year included Cathy Brooks, Sue Holmes, Lisa Biglane, Sherry Bennett, Beth Corl, Gwendolyn Baptist-Hewlett, Dr. Barbara Smith, Lisa Miller, Mary Williams, Joan Ferguson, Cheryl Beene, Scarlet Ullrich, Katie Johnson and Dana Finimore. Of the more than 5000 people who have received the Athena Award internationally since 1982, only 5 percent have been men. Rumler is the first man to win the award locally.
Comfort Suites of Southaven has won the Choice Hotels Platinum Award, which means the hotel is in the top 2 percent of Choice Hotels. Comfort Suites received the award after winning the company’s Gold Award for the past 3 years. Comfort Suites is managed by DeSoto Council Board Member Snay Patel.
TVA has appointed Tim Weston as manager of Regional Developments/Field Operations to oversee all of TVA’s economic development field operations throughout TVA’s service region. Chris Berryman will take Weston’s place as Regional Development Specialist on TVA’s economic development staff in Mississippi.
