DeSoto County Legislators Appointed to Leadership Positions

DeSoto County’s Legislative Delegation will represent the community well in the State Senate and House of Representatives.

Senator Merle Flowers was named chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee as well as Vice Chairman of the Housing Committee.  Flowers was also appointed to serve on Appropriations; Business and Financial Institutions; Education; Elections; Highways and Transportation; Municipalities; and Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committees.

Senator Doug Davis will serve as chairman of the Senate’s Universities and Colleges Committee and as vice chairman of the Appropriations Committee.  Davis will also serve on Appropriations; Constitution; County Affairs; Economic Development; Education; Fees, Salaries and Administration; Highways and Transportation; and Tourism Committees.

Representative John Mayo was named chairman of the House Conservation and Water Resources Committee.  He will also serve on Education; Gaming; Municipalities; Judiciary; and Public Health Committees.

Representative Wanda Jennings will serve as Vice Chairman of the House Libraries Committee.  In addition, Jennings will serve on Apportionment and Elections; Appropriations; Education; Ethics; Congressional Redistricting; and Legislative Apportionment Committees.

Representative Forrest Hamilton will serve as Vice Chairman of the House Executive Contingent Fund and will serve on County Affairs; Medicaid; Municipalities; Public Health and Human Services Committees.

Representative Tommy Woods will serve on the following House Committees:  County Affairs; Interstate Cooperation; Public Utilities; Transportation; and Ways and Means.

Representative Ted Mayhall will serve on the following House Committees:  Agriculture; Judiciary B; Marine Resources; and Conservation and Water Resources.

Representative  Larry Baker will serve on the following House Committees:  Agriculture; Constitution; Military Affairs; and Ways and Means.
