Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce Officials Tour DeSoto County
The DeSoto Council was fortunate to be contacted by the Eastern Shore Chamber of
Commerce in their annual quest to visit communities that have shown outstanding growth. Prior visits to San Diego, CA, Asheville, NC and Boca Raton, FL had yielded valuable dividends for their numerous communities in Baldwin County, AL. On October 23, the Council hosted the group of 20 business leaders and elected officials on a day long tour of our county and scheduled appointments with a wide variety of our own business leaders and public officials. Beginning with a presentation on Smart Growth, continuing with retail and tourism development, workforce development, healthcare and higher education opportunities and ending with recreation and industrial development, DeSoto County's "best and brightest" leaders in all communities displayed what sets apart from the crowd.
We were flattered that DeSoto County was chosen as one of their premier locations for their benchmarking trip. On the heels of this visit, the Lakeland, FL Economic Development CEO group is touring the area the first week of December, again benchmarking the bio-tech and logistics draw of the area. We are certainly on the radar screen throughout the country thanks to tireless efforts of you, our entire economic development team.
